Introducing Substance Abuse Professionals (SAP)
What is a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP)?

A Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) plays a critical role in ensuring workplace safety within the transportation industry, especially concerning drivers who have safety-sensitive duties. SAPs are specialists trained to evaluate and recommend appropriate treatment, education, follow-up tests, and aftercare for employees who have violated a Department of Transportation (DOT) drug and alcohol program regulation.

Why Are SAP Services Important for DOT Drivers?
For drivers with safety-sensitive responsibilities, indulging in substance abuse not only poses a risk to their well-being but also endangers public safety. The DOT has stringent regulations to prevent such dangers and ensures that every driver resumes their duty only after a complete evaluation from a SAP.

Certified to Serve
All Substance Abuse Professionals must be certified to guarantee the highest standard of service to their clients. Our SAPs have gone through rigorous training, adhere to specific professional and ethical standards, and have successfully passed the required examinations to become certified providers. They are dedicated to upholding the integrity of the safety-sensitive transportation industry.

How SAPs Help You
-
Assessment: SAPs conduct thorough assessments to determine the nature and extent of an employee's substance use and any necessary treatment and education.
-
Recommendation: Following the assessment, SAPs recommend a course of action, which may include treatment and/or education tailored to help the employee address their substance use issues.
-
Follow-Up: SAPs facilitate a follow-up program including unannounced testing to ensure the employee maintains compliance with DOT regulations.
-
Support: SAPs provide support and guidance to both employees and employers throughout the process to achieve a successful return-to-duty.

Are You a DOT Driver Who Needs a SAP Evaluation?
If you are a DOT driver who has failed a drug or alcohol test, or have otherwise violated DOT drug and alcohol program regulations, you are required to see a SAP for an evaluation. This step is crucial for returning to your safety-sensitive duties. Our certified SAPs are here to provide you with a thorough evaluation and a clear path towards compliance and recovery.
